The Crit Collective Manifesto

A crit isn’t just about feedback—it’s a process of discovery. We don’t meet to validate, we meet to challenge, question, and grow. This manifesto is our guide to staying open, curious, and engaged in that process.

1. Turn Up.

Consistency builds community. Show up for yourself and for others. Every voice matters.

2. Be Engaged.

Listen deeply. Think critically. Be present in the room, in the work, and in the conversation.

3. Crit the Work.

Respond to what IS there, not what it could be. The work exists beyond intention—let it speak.

4. Avoid Saying “I Like It.”

This isn’t about taste. It’s about asking what is the work doing? Dig deeper.

5. Stay the Course.

Don’t leave early. Every crit is part of a larger dialogue, and your presence is part of that process.

6. Speak Up.

Your perspective is valuable. Share it, even if it feels unfinished or uncertain.

7. Ask Questions.

Curiosity drives critique. What is the work doing? What isn’t it doing? Why?

8. Keep It About the Work.

No side chats. Respect the artist, respect the space. Let the work take centre stage.

9. Take Notes.

Critical reflection doesn’t stop when the crit ends. Write it down, sit with it, return to it.

10. No Phones.

Be here, now. The work—and the people in the room—deserve your full attention.
