The Crit Collective (2023-2024)

The Crit Collective was an artist-led platform that explored critique as a form of shared attention. Developed in Gloucestershire and Cheltenham, it brought artists together through structured conversations centred on the work itself.

 

The project tested alternatives to traditional feedback models, shifting focus from evaluation to interpretation, asking not what the work needs, but what it is doing. Sessions prioritised active listening, collective reading, and sustained looking.

A series of experimental critique formats were developed as part of this, including 'Little Miss and Mr Men Crit', which used character as a lens for interpretation, extending how works could be read, voiced, and understood.
